Frustration and this week's sketches

I won't say much, but I'm really at the point of losing all steam and the vision of making comics. If relying solely on talent is a good thing, then I've got something to say about that, THAT'S NOT TRUE! Any kid has potential, it's persistence that wins out. Your talent is nothing if you don't do anything with it, or give up when things don't work out. And that's what I've been losing, persistence. I know I still don't want to give up, but making stories has been troubling lately. Heck, I think I see why artists collaborate with writers, story-telling is NOT easy, let alone, writing.

Sorry about that rant. I've found it frustrating that I'm more into drawing fanart, rather than my original stuff. And that was something I didn't want to come to grips with. And it explains the small amount of sketches I've done. I started drawing out of frustration, and found some things that baffle me.
This thing was probably an older doodle. I can't seem to remember though. I think I was listening to some "Mystery Skulls" music, and thought it'd be cool making a short flash animation of Asmod and Ethelmay in urban get-up rocking out to the steady beat of the music. It was an excuse to draw a gangsta Asmod.
The drawing down here, is the result of my frustration also. I started taking anatomy and "correct posing" so seriously that I scrapped it and did another one. One that had little regard, and for some reason, I actually like the second one more. Then something clicked, and I remembered an journal article by Elson Wong (AKA "Darkspeeds" on deviantart) wrote while he was working on a commission. Anatomy and reference materials don't dictate and replace, but help with getting the right result. So it's natural that ultra-realistic anatomy doesn't look right on a Sonic character, or in my case, characters for Eruti.

And then there's this, something I doodled when there was only 12-15 minutes left before leaving for work, all because I wasted time perusing the comics and manga section at the bookstore. I really do like the strong lines from my Bristol pen, though I still can't get control over it. This was me being spontaneous for a change, and actually embracing my ugly art.

Raptors and Weekly Sketches

Not much again. I've drawn more fan sketches than normal, which I'm not showing here. Except for this one here. Yep, watched Jurassic World with my brother, and enjoyed it. Note to artists, I don't know how you get watercolor on these moleskins, but it didn't work well for me. The paper tends to mulch up from moisture and the brush rubbing against the paper.

Now for this photo below, I'm experimenting with Comic Prose, and have printed out the blue-color draft. I want to try inking these by hand. If everything is fine, I might do this for Eruti, and for more longer stories.

Now this is the first time I've drawn Yeoung-Hy and the blue-eyed phantom (still need to get a name for this guy) in an actual drawing, rather than an idea sketch. After Sugar Dominion (still need to finish), I'm going to work on this comic.
I've been experimenting again with Beeswhacks comics, and THIS is one test I don't want to repeat again. It feels sloppy and rushed, just to meet a deadline, and on top of that, watercolor pencils just don't cut it. That, and cleaning this up wasn't easy.
Yeah, I don't like how it looks even after clean up, all because the paper buckled due to water.

Starting June, weekly sketches, and a new Beeswhacks comic

New Beeswhacks comic yay!
This time I hand inked the lines, but over printed cardstock. I printed out the blue sketch and inked over it. I like the process so far. Next time, I want to try and take my time with the sketching, so I don't get stuck when trying to figure out what I had sketched. Plus, I need to make sure I use the right colors, since I struggled with getting the blue out.

Also some sketches.
This time, I really do need to make my mind up. It's either finishing "Sugar Dominion" and starting a new short story, work on the character design portfolio, or make a storyboard animatic based on the design portfolio.
Which was why I haven't had a lot of sketches, and why I made messy thumbnails and scribbles of other promo art. The chibis are the lovable cast from the "Pixel Brains" and "Balena Productions." I'm tempted to get into flash puppet animation. Oh, there's also that Pixel Brains short I have yet touched. In fact, I'm almost tempted to try that with my characters in Eruti. Which explains the chibi Ethelmay.

Also, some ideas I had to scribble, for the short story I had in mind. Trying to figure out how Yeoung Hy would adapt to her abrupt position as housewife/cave-keeper. The short story, Blue Fire, is based on a folk tale called, the Logger's Daughter and the Blue-eyed Phantom. Yeah, that was a first. I never knew this story existed, and kind of wonder if it was made up. But then again, there are lots of Korean lore and folktales I haven't heard about.

Oh yeah, this one is old. For that darn portfolio project, that I just can't seem to get around to.

Momocon gesture drawings, and weekly sketches.

First off, went to Momocon, and boy was I exhausted. But I was really glad to have attended to some good panels that were beneficial and inspiring to me. And of course, seeing "Mystery Ben" was a treat. There was a "Life Drawing 101" workshop, which I'm glad existed. It was especially great to see my brother happy with how much better he improved with drawing from a real-life model. I did realize how SLOW I am when it comes to drawing. I definitely stank during the 1 and 2 minute poses. You can tell by how incomplete they are. Can't even tell what pose she's holding. The longer ones were more bearable, but once again it hurt to see how hard it was to get certain angles and foreshadowing right. But it was still an awesome drawing session.

And now for the weekly sketches.
These were actually from last week. While waiting behind the reception table, I doodles a bit. The ones with stones are for a concept I thought of for Creon and Hinder's story.
This girl is my brother's fancharacter for RWBY, which was quite an interesting character. Though I should have made her more unhealthy and zombie-like.

The weird stones and gems you saw above, were based on an idea I though about incorporating into Creon and Hinder's story. I didn't like to keep it strictly Sci-fi and wanted to throw in a few supernatural elements into it. Which would explain why there are some super-powered mutants or people in this far future. Highly, powerful stones of power and energy (Shards, for now) are rare. It's also the source to Creon's powers and what boosts her genetics and her body's ability to adapt.
Some are smart enough to convert the Shard's power into clean and efficient energy to power machines and even space ships. Mining or hunting these things are hard.
I binged and re-watched all 2 seasons of Wakfu (highly recommend) with subtitles (because the dubs are poor), and felt like drawing Ethelmay and Asmod as Wakfu classes. I feel Asmod is perfect as a Sacrier, than an Iop. Ethelmay is obviously an Enripsa, since she's more magic-based and develops healing techniques.
These 2 below are thumbnails for some future drawings I want to do. I did one solo piece for Asmod, now it's time for Ethelmay to shine.

This was what I doodles while waiting for the "MysteryBen" panel to start. Especially when someone is playing awesome Mystery Skulls music.
The music playing in the room was awesome, that I drew Creon dancing her heart out. I already see her as the type to enjoy every moment and rocking to the music.
That's it. See you again later on.
